Strong Locally, Dependent Globally: Rethinking Technical Independence
Gothenburg does not lack talent, capital or ambition. World-leading AI is being built here every day. Yet much of what is created locally ultimately depends on infrastructure, platforms and technology controlled somewhere else. At Aixia Innovation Day 2026, our panel discussion Strong Locally, Dependent Globally: Rethinking Technical Independence will explore the gap between where innovation happens and where it actually lives.
What does independence actually buy you?
Technical independence is easy to talk about. But what does it mean in practice?
Is it about keeping data closer? Owning the infrastructure? Having greater control over compute and models? Or simply having the freedom to choose?
The real question is not whether dependency exists. It is where dependency makes sense and where greater control could create an advantage.
During the panel, we will explore what technical independence can mean for speed, cost, flexibility and trust, and when relying on global platforms is actually the smarter trade.
Building here, running somewhere else...
Western Sweden has the competence, companies and ambition to build world-leading AI.
But what could become possible if more of the data, compute and models also stayed closer to the people building on them?
Could local infrastructure shorten the path from idea to deployment? Could it create greater control over data and costs? And could stronger regional capabilities make it easier to innovate without becoming isolated from the global technology ecosystem?
Because technical independence does not have to mean doing everything yourself.
It can mean having a choice.
See it at Aixia Innovation Day
On October 7 at Svenska Mässan in Gothenburg, Strong Locally, Dependent Globally: Rethinking Technical Independence will bring together different perspectives on infrastructure, AI and the choices behind where technology is built and operated.
Join us at Aixia Innovation Day 2026 and explore what Western Sweden could achieve if the technology powering its innovation stayed a little closer to home.
